How To Make A Mesh Garland.

Wow! I haven’t been on here in a while. Let us all just agree it’s 2020 and this year has just been crazy in general. I started decorating early this year for Christmas because we all needed some holiday cheer in our lives with the way this year has been. I hope that anyone who is reading this is staying healthy and safe. Prayers for anyone who is having a hard time and if you aren’t religious- sending some positive vibes your way!

This year for Christmas we decided to change things up a little bit and create a small little theme on our tree. The girls love the Grinch, so decided to make a so called Grinch tree. I made a mesh garland for the tree to give it that big ribbon effect and to give it the green and red color pop!

For starters I bought two 18-foot pre-lit garland and one 9-foot pre-lit garland from Wal-Mart. I have a 7- foot Christmas tree I had to take into account that I’d need enough to wrap around the whole tree. I bought two rolls of red deco mesh and then two rolls of green mesh with two rolls of Christmas ribbon and some pipe cleaners that I got from Hobby Lobby. If you don’t go to any of these places I’ll share some links on this post.

Things Needed:

You don’t have to get the pre-lit I got that because I didn’t want to buy more lights just to wrap around the garland (I also put lights around my tree in general. The garland lights just give more color)

I started with the red mesh- You’ll take the first end of the mesh and scrunch it to the end of the garland and wrap the pipe cleaner around it to make it stay.

Then you’ll scrunch the mesh to the desired “poofiness” and then wrap another pipe cleaner around that and continue that all the way down the garland.

After, you reach the end move onto the green mesh. Start it just like you did with the red. I tried to go on each opposite sides of the red to just cover more ground. Make sure to secure your green mesh with the pipe cleaners just like the red.

Once I was done with that I wrapped some Christmas ribbon around the garland to cover the areas with the pipe cleaners.

Now, when I finished doing all of that it was ready to be wrapped around the tree. When I finished wrapping around the tree I had to work with the ribbon to get it to my desired “poofiness” on my tree. Basically just trying to get it to stick out more than what it was.
