Car Freshies

Good morning, hope everyone has a wonderful week. Lately I’ve received messages about how I make my car freshies and where I get my supplies. I’m creating this post so you can follow along and make your own if you’d like.
Supplies needed:
Aroma Beads– I like to order mine from Amazon because you can get a big bag for cheaper. I did get my first bag of beads from scent deals.
Essential oils– Scent deals has some great options of smells that will last awhile- but it can get pricey. You can find some on Amazon, it can be hit or miss.
Candle Dye or even mica powder – Like I have previously stated a lot of my first set of supplies came from scent deals. They have all the stuff you need. I ended up getting more colors from Hobby Lobby- they usually have a sale and of course use the 40% coupon.
Molds for freshies: When I first started out I was using metal cookie cutters- even though they still got the job done, I noticed the beads would start sticking. I came across silicon molds and they are a life saver.
Cookie sheet– If you don’t want to use one you already own the dollar store has some for a good price.
Mason Jars– I had some from our wedding that I used- you can find them most places with crafts.
Roofing nails. You want a nail with a flat top
In a mason jar you’ll put 1 cup of aroma beads in it, I’d suggest using a funnel of some sort.
You’ll then take your scent and add 2 tbs
Get the candle dye and add just a few drops. It doesn’t take much AT ALL!
Put the lid on the mason jar and shake it up- label your lid with the scent if you are making more than one at a time.
Put the mason jar in a general area that you walk by a lot. You’ll want to shake the jar every time you pass it just to ensure that the color and scent absorb into the beads.
It can take 24-48 hours to fully absorb and sometimes longer.
After, the dye and scent has been absorbed then you’re ready to bake them into shapes.
Set your oven to 350
Grab your cookie sheet and lay your cookie cutters out (you can make more than one at a time).
In the center of your cookie cutters sit the nail inside towards the top of the shape- with the head of it lying flat on the cookie sheet.
Take your beads and pour them into the cookie cutter/ molds.
Put the cookie sheet into the oven bake them for about 5-7 minutes. Take the sheet out and let them cool for about 3 minutes then they are ready to pop out of the cookie cutter.
Once, they are out of the cookie cutter and you push the nail out you’ll put a string in the hole so it’s ready to be hung up.
These freshies can be used anywhere such as the car, closest, bathroom, gym bag, and lockers.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Can you oil the cookie cutters before baking so they are easier to remove. I made a freshie but scent wasn’t strong very light scent. I’m very new to this help.

I have never tried putting oil on the cutters but you can try a test batch to see if that helps.
I usually take them out of the cutters while the beads are still a little warm.
As far as the scent it might just be that certain scent that is being used. May need a little bit more added to the beads next time.
I’m sorry you are having these issues with this little craft.

My freshies are super stuck! Any ideas for removal? Thanks
McKenzie Williams
I usually try to remove them while the freshies are still a little warm so they don’t harden onto the cutters.
I’m sorry you are having this issue.

May I ask what kind of bags you use for your freshies?
McKenzie Williams
If you use Amazon just put in your search “Car freshie bags.” It should bring up all kinds of different smell proof bags to keep it sealed. You can pick whatever kind you like- there is different designs to pick from.

Thank you

can u make them the same way in a toaster oven yes or no?
McKenzie Williams
I haven’t tried them in the toaster oven but I don’t think it would hurt. You may just have to experiment and see what temp and time works best.

Some of my beads after taking out of the oven have not melted together. Could I have to much in the cutter, not enough scent, not cooled enough? Any advice I would appreciate. Thank you
McKenzie Williams
It could be a few things.
*It may be too many beads- if that’s the case then just leave them in the oven a few more minutes. Just keep checking on them.
*Even if you have the right amount of beads your oven may be just a little different so just keep them in there a little longer. (you don’t want the beads to be completely melted.)
*They may not be cooled enough so the freshie will come apart.
